It features the Traditional Red, White and Black Design The bold, printed colours of the design hold symbolic meaning to iwi Maori.
Black is Te Kore… the realm of the Night, of potential Being
White is Te Ao Marama, the Realm of Light and Being
Red is Te Whei Ao, the Realm of Coming into Being
The centre features the koru, the fern frond symbolic design in Maori art symbolising new life, growth, strength and peace. It is a powerful emblem of hope and continuity.
